Blair Street Veterinary Hospital is well equipped with all the latest diagnostc tools to make accurate diagnoses and facilitate treatments for your pet.
Digital X-ray System
 Our hospital was one of the first in the region to make the shift from film to digital x-rays. With digital x-rays instead of the traditional film and cassette method for displaying x-rays, the x-rays are captured electronically and displayed on a computer. This is like the difference between old style film cameras and new digital cameras. What this means for you and your pet is, firstly, that x-rays are available much more quickly and with less fuss. With quiet animals, x-rays can be taken while you wait and exposure to radiation is much less. The quality of the final image is much better than with film, images can be zoomed and contrasts altered where necessary to help ensure a more accurate diagnosis can be made.
Ultrasound
The hospital has a modern, powerful yet portable ultrasound system which, with our trained ultrasonographer, means that most ultrasounds are done in the consult room while you are there. Ultrasound is a powerful tool to investigate lumps and tumours, bladder and gall stones, pregnancy and reproductive problems, hearts and chest fluids.
Endoscopes 
These are used to look up or down any orifice where they can be inserted. The hospital has two of these for patients of all sizes. We use these to look up noses, down airways and into lungs for sampling and removal of foreign bodies. We look down throats for obstructions and into stomachs and duodenums for foreign bodies and tumours as well as colonoscopies in cases of chronic diarrhoea.
ECG 
Used to monitor hearts which may not be beating properly and gives a good view of the electrical conduction of the heart.
Blood Pressure Measurement 
Measuring blood pressure in animals is becoming much more common. High blood pressure can lead to secondary conditions such as strokes and bleeding into the eye. With our equipment, we can monitor animals with conditions that predispose to high blood pressure such as kidney disease and high thyroid.
Surgical Equipment
With our surgical suite, we have all we need to do almost all surgeries - from caesarians to cruciate repairs, broken bones to complicated eye surgery, surgery of the abdomen and thorax.
Blood Testing
Blood testing is performed at our local lab which is literally just down the road. Even our basic blood screen for seniors is comprehensive with 17 different parameters tested which covers all the major organs. On-site, we have microscope and lab facilities to deal with bacterial swabs and needle aspirates of lumps and tumours. We use the latest chemotherapy techniques for those who desire this for their dogs.
Looking to the Future....
Finally, we believe in using new and the best treatments we can find. Recent therapies to have been used include a faecal transplant on a dog with haemorrhagic gastro-enterititis caused by a clostridium difficile which has made a near miraculous recovery, the use of a human topical chemotherapy agent to treat skin tumours in a cat, and the use of ultra-slow release insulin in diabetic cats which has resulted in remission of the diabetes in 90% of cases.
